A Study of Strategic Development to Enhance Commitment to their Organizations among Thai Commercial Banks

Abstract


The objectives of the study were 1) to study the organizational factors which affected the levels of employee engagement in the commercial banks in Thailand, and 2) to develop strategies of enhancing the organizational engagement of the employees in the commercial banks. The total sample for selection was consisted of 120,662 employees in 5 commercial banks with the most remarkable estate in Bangkok, namely Bangkok Bank, Siam Commercial Bank, Kasikorn Bank, Krungthai Bank and Krungsri Bank. The sample of this research was calculated by using Taro Yamane formula with .05 deviation level. The sample size of the study was 400 respondents. The research instrument used was a questionnaire with 0.95 confidence level. The statistics used for data analysis were percentage, mean, standard deviation, and analysis of relationship and engagement factors with Multiple Regression Analysis. The findings revealed that the employee engagement of the commercial banks in general was at a high level with average point of 3.96. When analyzing the factors affecting the levels of employee engagement in the commercial banks, it found that the job characteristics and organization practice affecting the employee engagement were statistically significant at 0.05. The two complementary predictors could significantly predict the factors influencing the employee engagement at the level of 61.80 (R2=.618) with standard deviation at (SEest) .373. The result of the strategic development of enhancing the organizational engagement of the employees showed that there were four main factors providing the strategies of enhancing the employee engagement in the commercial banks, namely job characteristics, people/social, organization practice and organization climate. And the result of assessment of suitability and probability in applying the strategies of enhancing the organizational engagement of the employee in the commercial banks by some experts found that both suitability and probability were at a high level.
