A Model of Servant Leadership Development for Basic Education School Administrators

Abstract


The purpose of this research is to study servant leadership characteristics aiming to construct and evaluate the servant leadership model for basic education school administrators. The research comprises 3 steps: 1) studying the servant leadership characteristics for basic education school administrators; 2) constructing the servant leadership development model; and 3) evaluating the servant leadership development model. The statistical tools for data analysis are percentage, mean, standard deviation, median, interquartile range and t-test. The results of the study reveale that; (1) the servant leadership characteristics of basic education school administrators are agape, humility, altruism, vision, trust, service and empowerment. (2) The servant leadership development model for basic education school administrators is comprised of 4 parts: Part 1 is the servant leadership characteristics needed to be developed; Part 2 is the principles and concepts of the servant leadership development model; Part 3 is the process of the servant leadership development model is comprising four phases: 1) preparation for development; draft training course and preparation of training manuals. 2) pre-training evaluation before developing 3) treatment 4) post-training evaluation and Part 4 is the application of the model. The training course outline by experts; all elements of the training course have median between 4.0-5.0, interaction quartile as 0.00 (3) The experts’ evaluation reveals that the application and goal achievement are appropriate at a high level ( mean = 3.84, S.D. = 0.34). The feasibility of the model is also suitable at a high level ( mean = 3.97, S.D. = 0.43). The experts’ evaluation training manuals reveals that description, content and activity are appropriate at a high level ( mean = 3.80, S.D. mean = 0.45, = 4.18, S.D. mean = 0.42, mean = 3.98, S.D. = 0.39). Knowledge and understanding, including positive attitudes towards the servant leadership after the training of the basic education school administrators are significantly higher than before the training at the .05 level. The administrators are satisfaction in the training at the highest level ( mean = 4.70, S.D. = 0.00). Overview, the servant leadership characteristics of the administrators has been at the highest level ( mean = 4.52, S.D. = 0.48). The subordinates are satisfaction at high level ( mean = 4.31, S.D. = 0.49).
