A Development of Public Mind Test for Mathayomsuksa 1-3 Students in Chai Nat Province
Chai Nat Province. The specific objectives were to develop the public mind test; to validate the public mind test; to set norms for interpreting the test score; and to construct the manual. Using stratified sampling method, research sample for norms construction consisted of 730 Mathayomsuksa 1 to 3 students that studied in schools under The Secondary Education Service Area Office 5 in Chai Nat Province, academic year 2013. The developed public mind test comprised 42 items that aimed to assess 2 public mind’s indicators; 1. voluntarily helping others without expecting anything in return and 2. participating in beneficial activities for schools, community and society. The first indicator consisted of 3 behavior indicators; 1.1 voluntarily helping parents and teachers to do something, 1.2 volunteering to do something for others without expecting anything in return, 1.3 sharing things, assets and others and helping others to solve problem or making others happy. The second indicator consisted of 3 behavior indicators; 2.1 voluntarily maintaining public property and environment, 2.2 participating in beneficial activities for schools, community and society, 2.3 enthusiastically participating in activities for solving or doing good for public. Each behavior indicator consisted of seven multiple choice situational questions with five different from 1-5. The research result showed that the developed public mind test was the test that could be efficiently used to assess the public mind of Mathayomsuksa 1 to 3 students in Chai Nat Province. The significant findings were as follows: 1) The item discrimination index was in the range of 0.33-0.60 and t-test was in the range of 4.71-19.32; 2) The construct validity of public mind test, investigated by confirmatory factor analysis, revealed that construct validity of the public mind test was achieved. Chi-Square with 748 df was 795.46 (p=0.11), Standardized RMR was 0.09, RMSEA was 0.02, GFI was 0.85, and AGFI was 0.82; 3) Cronbach’s alpha reliability coefficient for the whole test was 0.93, for the first and the second indicators were 0.89 and 0.92 respectively, and for the behavior indicators 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 were 0.78 0.73 0.64 0.84 0.74 and 0.80 respectively; 4) The local norms for the public mind test score interpretation presented in the form of normalized T-score were in the range of T3–T89, T16–T84, T14-T88, T22–T79, T15–T85 and T17-T85 for the behavior indicator 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 respectively, in the range of T-4-T103 and T13-T88 for the first and the second indicators, and in the range of T1 – T99 for the whole test; 5) The manual of the public mind test was suitable, easy to understand and complete.
