A Study of Industrial Teachers Production Capacity : Case Study of Adequacy of Industrial Teacher Graduates and Assistant Teachers Recruitment

Abstract


This research aimed to 1) study the capacity of industrial teachers’ production for 10 government universities in Thailand, 2) study the amount of assistant teachers’ recruitment of the office of vocational education commission – OVEC, and 3) study the adequacy of industrial teachers toward the ratio of OVEC. The samples were industrial education students from 10 government universities in Thailand who were studying in academic year of 2003-2014, derived from purposive sampling. The research instruments were 1) data of graduated in industrial education teachers, 2) data of industrial education students who were studying, 3) database of government teachers. The data collected were (1) statistics of graduates and students of industrial education who were studying in academic year of 2005-2013 from10 government universities in Thailand, (2) the statistics of assistant teachers’ recruitment of OVEC between 2005-2014. The data for descriptive statistics was percentage, and ratio. The research findings were that 1) the capacity of industrial teachers’ production for 10 government universities in Thailand was 12,014 which had enough for assistant teachers’ recruitment of OVEC, 2) in the past 10 years, OVEC had recruited 898 assistant teachers in industrial education, 3) the adequacy of industrial teachers toward the ratio of industrial teachers’ recruitment of OVEC was at 13:1. The research can be concluded that the amount of industrial education teachers is adequate for the recruitment of assistant teachers in industrial education. The research finding referred to the adequate number of OVEC teacher to the lack of recruitment ratio for government teachers. This research suggests that the government should provide a policy for recruitment planning focusing on assistant teachers which lasts longer than 21 years.
